Very helpful information. As a result of the options I publish on my site, I have been getting calls and email over past few years from consumers who are thinking of going with one of these so-called debt elimination firms. I have also received calls from some consumers who already paid $5000 or more to have their debts "eliminated." One consumer ended up filing for bankruptcy anyway 18 months later (after a great deal of stress). Two others saw their money go down the drain when the firm promising to eliminate the debts was shut down by the FTC.

Forget the fairy tales! I recommend consumers take your advice Charles and work through their debt in a legitimate way.
